Mothers Taking Care Of Themselves

Quote For Mothers

Mothers, do you take care of yourselves? I do. I take care of myself by spending time on me and my own personal development.

First there was me.... before I became a mother.

I started blogging on my Parenting blog called Parenting Times, 11 years ago in 2004 because I had breastfeeding problems and I wanted to reach out to other mothers who were in the same position as me, other SAHMs. Eventually, that Parenting Blog became a blog for my children to record the funny moments with them, the time we spent doing crafts together etc. As they grew, the blog evolved to include educational items and sites for children because I was using them for my children.
Then I wanted a voice for the Mother in me. So I started my blog for mothers and called it Mothering Times. It was the same as my Parenting Blog. At first it was to share stories about pregnancy, childbirth and bringing up babies, it moved on to toilet training, teething, sleep, looking after babies, then toddler hoods, preschoolers and now grade school children.
But there was nothing for me, personally. I had to have a voice for myself. That was how my Personal Blog Mumsgather.com was born.
I believe that whether you are a SAHM (Stay at Home Mom), a WAHM (Work at Home Mom), a FTWM (Full Time Working Mom), you need to remember to take care of yourself first before you can take care of your family. You must remember to take care of yourself physically and mentally. My personal blog is my place to take care of me mentally. I find writing extremely therapeutic. So I spend several hours each day focusing on me.
How do you take care of yourself?
If you are a SAHM

We have a choice to choose happiness. If you are a SAHM who is lost, perhaps you might like to get back on the track with some of these books for SAHMs.

Guides for the Working Mom

Stress Loads are high for the working mom. Even when both partners work and the man of the house actually helps around the house, there is no denying the fact that at the end of the day, the 'nurturing' part of parenting still falls heavily on the mother.
With work, family balance to juggle and relationships between family, co-workers and bosses to manage, it is sure to drive any woman insane.
You are not alone, some of these books are aimed at working moms who want to stay sane. Check them out.

Guides for the Work at Home Mom

The Work at Home Mom... do you have the best of both worlds or do you have to manage the load of both worlds? It is up to you.
Here are some guides to show you how to work from home and reap the benefits of the stay at home mom as well as the working mom.

A blog created by a mother for mothers. Mothers, come and share your joy, sweat, tears, frustration about being a mother..... and wife too. That's what this blog is about. It is for mothers young and old who have kids young and old.

Women Quarreling In Forums

Women Gossiping
Before blogs, Facebook and Twitter came along, there were forums. Forums are still around but many people now use Facebook and Facebook groups like their own personal forum.

Being one who in real life prefer to listen rather than talk, I also "listened" in forums. Wow! I was surprised at what I "heard".

Forums and other new social media now can turn to be pretty ugly places at times. I didn't know that one can actually argue and quarrel without meeting. I watched friendships form and disintegrate. The online world is just like the real world sometimes.

I try to stick away from negativity though I must admit that once, just once in my almost 10 years of blogging, I got heated up with a commenter and I had an online argument back and forth in my comments page for the world to see. It is most unbecoming. In fact, negativity of any form makes you ugly. See how ugly those women in my cartoon are? Well, those engaging in gossiping, nagging, complaining, arguing, quarreling usually look ugly when they do it. What do you think?

Part Time Maid

I have two maids now. A daily one which does the daily laundry, washing, ironing, cooking, washing, that kind of thing. The other maid comes in twice a week for four hours each time. On one of the days, she will clean everything upstairs, cleaning up all the upstairs rooms, toilets, fans, aircon filters, mop the floor, wipe everything table tops etc. The other day is for downstairs doing much the same as upstairs.

Actually both maids are me. I've decided that its better to really focus on doing housework for 4 sometimes 5 hours a day but only for twice a week so I won't feel overwhelmed by it and so that I will have some "free time". Of course, there is never ever real "free time". That's where the other "maid" comes in for the daily stuff.

I've found that every since the real maid left, I've been so swamped by housework that it has left me no more inspiration to write. I used to love waking up each day and really being excited and looking forward to writing. I even managed to a book of poems and a breastfeeding help book. Housework killed that. Hopefully, my twice a week plan works out, so that I can have some focus again. I didn't realize it but when I write, I need to focus too. I need concentration and the more I write, the more I have to write about. Housework killed that focus.

I'm slowly trying to get back into my writing mode. I've been out of active action since July last year when I got chicken pox and my maid went back for a holiday. She came back for two months but then the year end holidays arrived and I was busy with the kids. In addition, in October the maid left abruptly which left me swarmed with chores. It's almost half a year now. I should be settled down by now.

I still have this freeze in my mind where my words use to flow freely. I need to be motivated and inspired again. During my absence (from writing) I've missed out some fun quests at Squidoo too. I managed to put in one recently for the Imminent Picture Perfect Reel Challenge. We were supposed to take our own pictures and write a lens (a page on Squidoo is called a lens) using those pictures. My lens was one of the 15 to win a raffle ticket this week. Can you spot which one it is from here? Ok, ok, I'll save you the trouble. It is this lens on Choosing Cross Stitch Patterns. The cross stitch pictures on the lens are all my own. This is the second lens I wrote after a long time. I'm happy its still good enough to be featured. The first lens I wrote after getting back into action is this one: What To Look For When Buying A Juicer. I used to be able to write a lens a day but now...

I need to get back into my blogging mode too. So far, I've managed some posts. Hope I can keep it up.

My Parenting Blog Deleted

My Parenting Blog was deleted for spam and is currently under review. My blog is not spam. It is a Parenting Blog that has been online for 8 years. I wonder what triggered this, maybe my account was compromised in some way.

Before the deletion, I had problems using google on my handphone. It kept on asking me for my password but when I keyed in my password,  it kept on saying it was the wrong password. So I used my desktop to enter the password and I vaguely remember, I had to request for a code to be sent to my handphone twice before I could enter my account.

After that, I found only 1 blog on my dashboard out of my 5 blogs. Yes, I have 5 but 1 of them is dormant at the moment and not made public. Anyway, I managed to quickly restore 2 more blogs. I can't remember how I did it. However, 1 more blog which was marked as deleted could not be restored. I had to fill up a form to request for it to be reviewed and restored.

After 2 days and still no news, I decided to post in Google groups to see if the process could be expedited. I really hope to get my blog back.

It is a diary of my kids activities, the crafts we did, the education issues we face and more. I always use google search to search for an event in our lives when I can't remember it and now its gone in its entirety and I can't access any of my posts. I want my posts back. They are my diary and that is what a blog is after all isn't it? A blog is an online diary. Only, the danger of an online diary compared to a pen and paper one is, the online diary can disappear overnight without warning.

I really hope to get my blog back soon. I feel so sad to see it gone.

Updated: My blog was restored after I posted in the Blogger Forum but after 6 days it was deleted again! I feel like pulling my hair out!

You Don't Have To Rot When You Stay At Home As A SAHM

You don't have to rot when you stay at home as a stay at home mom (SAHM).

I am a SAHM and I often meet people who tell me "Oh, No, I can't stay at home 24/7 like you, I'd die of boredom!" Well, I didn't die of boredom, thank you very much. In fact, I'm thriving as I discoverd my passion in writing.

Today, I'm going to write about other SAHMs, amazing mommy bloggers and SAHMs from Malaysia who didn't die from boredom as well. In fact they are flurorishing and I don't think they have the time to feel bored. I have known some of them for a long time from our early blogging days, almost 8 years and that is a very long time indeed for the online world.

The SAHM mommy bloggers I have featured here are in random.

1. When I think of this SAHM blogger, I see cute crochet stuffed toys.

That's amazing Samm who is very talented in crocheting. She certainly has no time to be bored. She has several blogs and does amazing Amigurumi, a kind of Japanese art of knitting or crocheting stuffed toys.

Check out Samm's Fibre Art Creations Blog and visit Samm's Amigurumi Cafe on Facebook. She's also a great cook as you can see here on her Organic Samm Blog.

She is also a SAHM to two lovely boys. Bored SAHM? I don't think she has the time.

2. Another amazing SAHM mommy who does not have time to rot is Montessorrimum who is a mother of four. She is a very hands on mother. I don't know where she finds the time to do all the crafty stuff she does with her kids who are still young.

Recently, when I think about her, I see Wikkistix,a creative craft tool, teaching aid and educational toy.

Wikkistix is her new baby. You can support this SAHM by visiting and liking her Wikkistix fan page on Facebook.

This is another SAHM who has no time to be bored. I can sense that sometimes she is restless and thinks about returning to work. Well, I wish her all the best whichever path she may choose but at the moment, I think she is doing very well indeed.

3. This pretty SAHM is an amazing lady. She is a mother to two active and adorable boys. You can read about their antics on her blog, She calls it Blablablabla - Our Comical Life.

A rotting SAHM she certainly is not. A very creative lady, she is a freelance graphic designer that designs prints on designs for packaging and premiums. I don't know which she does better, graphic designing or sewing or crafting and anything creative. She can create something beautiful out of anything.

Perhaps you are wondering why I am  using the picture of bottles to represent such a creative person? That is because, besides busy creating and designing, you will most likely find Sasha at BYOB Subang Branch, a new concept store to reuse, recyle and economize by Bringing Your Own Bottles to buy detergent and other household stuff. Read Sasha's story about how she turned from BYOB user to owner here .

4. Her facebook page says: SAHM with 4 kiddies. Golf clubs are collecting dust and cobwebs in the store room. (She used to be a national golfer) Running an online Family Bookshop on the side. You can read the story about how she started her online Value Bookshop here. I guess that says it all. Being a mama of 4, she has lots of tips to give you on her blog Mama's Bag Of Tricks where she shares with you her personal collection of Parenting Tips and Tricks. Sometimes she shares interesting recipes too as you can see from this picture. Yum!
5. Shireen is a mother to three sweet little girls. Her youngest is pictured here. She has been through a lot which makes her all that much more adorable and sweet.

This is another SAHM who has no time to rot. In fact, she wishes she has more time to look after her dearies, her online store: Old & New Stuff For Sale and her several blogs.

In addition to running an online store and taking care of her 3 lovelies, she also writes several blogs, I've lost track of how many, this is one of them with many followers Health Freak Mommy and yes, in addition to this family blog, she has a separate health blog as well.

6. When I see baby slings and cloth pads, I think of Chin Nee and Mama Patch. She is a SAHM mother to twin boys and a girl.

You can see and read about her cute twins and girl on her blog Demoments.net. Taking care of twins must be very tiring but it does not stop this amazing SAHM, online shop owner and blogger.

Bored? Who has the time to be bored?

7. This young and pretty SAHM and super mommy blogger, Merryn has a blog called Home Is Where My Heart Is. The title of her blogs says it all. Stay At Home Is where she belongs. Is she bored? No!

You will find  her running around a lot attending and blogging about many exciting events around town.

She is a mother to one very lucky boy who benefits from her creativity and home teaching. She also runs Crafty Crafted, a craft centre suitable for young children and toddlers.

You can see some of her cool crafts on her crafting blog called Crafty Crafted. You can get lots of crafting ideas for small children from this blog with craft instructions too.

8. This is a mother to one very lucky and talented little boy called Reese Mathew. Her blog is simply called "Resse Mathew's Secret Isle. I love the Education Category on her blog. Just reading it gives you an idea the amount of love and effort this mother puts into her child's education.

Not long ago, she started a Facebook page called Reese's Secret Gallery to showcase all of Reese's incredible drawings and art. The one on the left is one of his drawings. Can you guess how old Reese is to have drawn such an amazing artwork? Check out Reese's Secret Gallery to find out.

I could go on but I guess I will stop here. I hope you enjoyed reading and getting to know these amazing SAHM's better. The message I want to impart in this blog post is SAHM's do not rot at home. SAHMs do not have time to be bored at home and SAHMs are certainly not boring people, don't you think so?

My blog is more than just a diary

My blog is more than just a diary. It is also my personal forum and personal web bookmark as well as my Dear Aunt agony page. When I was in my teens, me and my girl friend talked about becoming psychologists and helping people. We wanted to join the Befrienders then. The Befrienders is a non-profit organisation which offers emotional support to the depressed and suicidal through telephone calls, emails and letters. My sister in law just joined the Befrienders as a volunteer recently. She had to go through quite a lot of training and evaluation before she is allowed to take calls.

Anyway, my friend did eventually become a psychologist and I became a housewife who is a blogger who feels glad if she is able to help anyone out sitting in her chair at home writing her posts and replying to the occassional email asking for help.

Sometimes I use my blog as a personal forum. When I had a bad cough, I wrote a post to ask about home remedies for cough and I was glad to receive many ideas and suggestions. In my Parenting Times blog which really started out as my personal blog but is now more about my kids, I like to bookmark good sites for my kids  that I can easily return to by searching my personalised search box. I find it so much easier to find things this way compared to adding it to my favourites folder which is chockful of rubbish for myself and the kids. I am not really that good at organizing folders at home and that includes cyber folders. I use online social bookmarking sites like Digg, Delicious and Reddit more for submitting my own sites rather than bookmarking other sites so that doesn't work for me either.

So my blog is where I bookmark important links I want to remember. Today, I want to bookmark this link because my kids get sick quite often they have to take the antibiotic Zithromax. This information below is useful to keep and remember.

An Internet Radio Station for New Parents

The other day I was reading a story to my little girl. The story was about computers and how useful it is to people. As I was reading the story, I was explaining to her about how we use our own computer at home.

We use it to store our photos, we use it as a dictionary or reference, we use it to watch short video clips of news or cartoons, we use to play games. Why, we even use it to tell the time! Lol! We use it to listen to the radio too and of course I must not forget blogs. We use it to blog and read blogs. We use it for networking too judging from the number of social networking sites recently.

Since this blog is for mothers, new and old, I'd like to highlight to you a radio site for New Parents. A Station you can listen to for Baby Information, it is called My Baby Radio.Com Its an Internet radio station for new parents. Imagine that. A Radio Station dedicated to all things baby. How lovely.

It has competitions, blogs, podcasts, online chats etc. You can listen to interviews with celebrity parents, parenting experts and real mums and dads. Fellow bloggers can post comments on the site as well. The Site is updated daily while the radio station is updated on a weekly basis.

Blogger mommies and daddies can submit your sites for inclusion in the Parenting Blogs Directory on the site.

Happy Listening or perhaps Happy Participating would be the more correct word to use. :)

Mommy Bloggers Category

I'm starting a new category for this blog today. Its called "Mommy Bloggers". In this category, I shall review new mommy bloggers on the blog that I've just come across. Some of these mommy bloggers are not new on the blog at all but they are new to me.

I think its good to have this category on this blog for mommies. In fact, I had wanted to start a directory of mommy and daddy bloggers but then thats being a bit ambitious. It'll take a lot of hard work to update them regularly and I won't be able to keep up. There are so many parent bloggers out there.

Reviewing parent bloggers is the next best thing to a parent blogger directory. :)

Blogging is a great way for parents to record down the growing years of their children. I think its great!

I'm a computer geek mom

I'm a computer geek mom. I wouldn't be able to survive without my computer. I use my computer for everything.

Its my dictionary, my clock, my blog. I use it to keep in touch using emails and some social networking sites. Its my radio, my recipe book, my medical handbook, my newspaper.

I let my kids play with my computer too. They play games online, email their daddy occassionally and even learn Chinese online. I'm Chinese but I don't know Chinese Mandarin so the computer is a very useful tool for me to teach the kids.

I let the kids watch short cartoon clips on YouTube. I also use the computer to search for the lyrics of some children songs that I have forgotten so I can sing it with the kids. And I am always looking for new crafts on the computer to do with the kids. And when they are sick, I search the net for their symptoms and when or whether I should be worried.

There is no denying it. I am a computer geek mom and if you are a mom reading this, you probably are too. Lol!

Welcome to the New Mothering Times

Well, its the same Mothering Times actually. Same content but with a new look. I've been wanting to make changes for as long as I can remember because I hated the old boring blogger look but the task of changing seem so intimidating I never got round to doing it.

Well, I've done it at last and I like the results. This is much better than the old template and much more representative of what this blog is all about. Its about motherhood and bringing up babies hence the baby images.

We became mothers the moment our babies are born. That is the start of our lifelong journey as mothers. It is the beggining of a wondrous journey. I love being a mother. Don't you?

Psst. One more thing before I forget. I got this new template from FinalSense. I think they have a wonderful selection of blogger templates and deserve a mention here. Its easy to install too as I just found out after months of putting it off. :)

Diary of a Blogaholic - Part III

I don't think I have been doing very well so far. There is so much that I want to do. Other priorities. On top of that list is sleep and exercise. Those are important to me to prevent my seizure triggers. Those take up a lot of time. Help!

Second on the list is the kids. They are second not because they are less important but because if I don't take care of myself first, I would not be able to look after them. I need to give them lessons, spend time with them, as well as the routine stuff of feeding and bathing etc. My health situation has prevented me from sending them to preschool so I need to teach them myself. Teaching them takes so much commitment and time and discipline. Routine stuff still gets done but the lessons keeps on getting pushed back day after day. Thats one of the disadvantages of home schooling. Procrastination and lack of discipline, on my part that is. Help!

Third on my list is myself. Not the sleep and exercise part but the me-time part. Doing the things I love, like practising my piano, blogging, doing my cross stitch. Out of all these I constantly find that blogging comes up tops, piano second and my cross stitch remains in my cupboard untouched for several months now. It was supposed to be for my new house but I'm living in the house for several months now and it remains uncompleted. Help!

Fourth on the list is poor hubby of course. He gets the crumbs of my time. Is it any wonder that last night I dreamed that he was looking elsewhere instead of me. Help!

Ok, now that I'm clear about my priorities (writing down always helps), its time to get into action. There is a clear imbalance in my time at the moment. I am getting too much me-time. I spend too much unproductive time online and some time practising my piano which isn't so bad.

What do I need to carry out my plan? A strong dose of self discipline, thats what. Help!

Part I and II of my blogging diary is here and here.

Diary of a Blogaholic - Part II

So how did I do so far? Well, I wanted to get off my chair after part 1 of the Diary of a Blogaholic ...........but as I made off, ta dum (you know the sound the pc makes when someone comes online) ...... my good friend was online to chat and so we chatted and we chatted and we chatted.

And then I remembered that I had to twiddle with the template on my Parenting Blog to remove some low performing ads that were taking up too much space on my virtual real estate ie my blog. And so I did that.

While I was twiddling with my template, I read some of my favourite blogs, meaning, I went blog hopping and before I knew it, several hours had passed. :P I didn't write any blog posts at all but I had managed to spend a lot of time online. This is not productive time. Tsk. Tsk.

I did get off and stayed off during the weekend. Although I did check my email and went to MyBlogLog to change my profile image there after learning about the merger with Yahoo from Dolphine.

Hmm.... I can't say I've been very good but a little success is better than none. Hehe. I am still trying my very best to reduce my time but increase my productivity online. I think it can be done. It just requires blogging smartly with speed, discipline and priotising. My aim is to reduce unproductive time online.

Diary of a Blogaholic trying to treat her blogging addiction

Yesterday, I tried to treat my own blogging addiction by going cold turkey. How did it go? Well lets see, I was a good girl at first, I played playdoh with the kids which they love. I did snap some pictures of our playdoh to put in my parenting blog in the kids craft category later on. (Hey! I said I wouldn't go near my blog but I didn't say I wouldn't think about it right?)

I ate with the kids, bathed them, practised my piano, did my 20 minutes exercise routine. Then I sat down with one of them to teach him his ABC's online (Oops! Online again. But online for my baby not for me should not be counted right?). I nearly nodded off while looking at his ABCs. I don't do that when I'm blogging. I'm very wide awake. Hehe.

So, I was a good girl..... till 5pm when blog withdrawal symptoms promted me to write 3 blog posts in an hour. Oh dearie me. Cold turkey did not work! Nevermind, at least I aimed high and fell lower.

What I'm trying to ahieve here is blogging but blogging smartly. I have to find a balance. I'm trying to blog for shorter periods of time and still achieve the same delight and earnings in blogging. I'm trying to learn to blog at the speed of lightning so that I have time to do other things. Not only must I blog well, I must blog well and FAST.

Fortunately, I did some of my work assignments yesterday because there's more today and if I don't get them out of the way, they will snowball. I'm going to do the same today. I've written/published 5 blog posts this morning so I'm going to turn my back away from the PC for the rest of the day. But even as I write I received a pop-up mail from an advertiser. Fortunately, its payment, not another assignment. Phew! Otherwise I may be go back on my words and be stuck on my chair a while longer.

Ok. I'm off. Its Friday today. I will be back on Monday for another post but I will still be around in my comment boxes. Happy Weekend everyone!

Have you joined FrenzRSS yet?

FrenzRSS, a lovely name don't you think? FrenzRSS is a place where friendly bloggers gather. FrenzRSS was launched on 1st January. It is jointly run by 5xmom and Rojaks. If you're a Malaysian blogger, these two need no introduction.

If you like pinging your posts to various directories, sites or local communities then hurry up and join. The site is still under construction but it is accepting pings right now. Here are the latest pings.

I've registered two our of my four blogs there so far. I left out one which is not very active and the other which has a higher paid post to my original post ratio because at the moment the site will automatically ping all posts.

So... what are you waiting for? Go now!

Pssst. This is not a paid post. LOL! I'm supporting 5xmom who is an inspiration and has helped me a lot in my blogging.

Blogging at a snails pace

I wanted to post this on my personal blog but I couldn't get it to load. "Geramnya!" This slowness is so frustrating. I hope that they fix the problem soon. I read that "Data lines to Hong Kong, Singapore and other parts of Southeast Asia were to be back to normal late Thursday." Read more here. Its Friday now and things are still slow.

Overeas pages are taking ages to load and that includes my blogger (for blogging), bloglines (for blog hopping to my favourite blogs), PPP (for my paid posts), Paypal (to accept payment for my paid posts) etc. Funnily though my blogger is slow but easier to access than my blog hosted on my own domain so I have to post this here to "lepas geram". Okie! Done! I'm off now to do some cross stitch. I think it'll be a lot more productive than sitting here watching pages load halfway very slowly.

To all those who visited my blogs with your holiday wishes, thank you very much. I wish you all a Happy New Year and normal internet connection soon. LOL!

Templates incompatible with the new blogger?

I have yet to switch to the new blogger. Well, I tried to but I got the message that "one of your blogs could not be switched because........." and after that the "Switch Now" button disappeared from my sign-in page so I could no longer even try to switch.

I'm wondering whether its because I was using a modified template and not one of the blogger original ones. The template has a new version that is compatible with the new blogger. However, I'm not a technical person and its harder for me to do my "copy and paste" tricks now with the new blogger version.

I didn't want to waste too much time on the technical aspects of blogging since I prefer to just write. That is why I have switched my template to one of the original ones by blogger.

So if you are surprised by this blog's new look, well, this is my simple explanation. I prefer the old look and I'm not changing the look for the new year. I'm changing it in the hopes that if I get to switch to the new blogger again later on, I won't need to do a lot of adjusting work.
